Younsel is pleased to announce the creation of the Younsel Scholarship Award, as part of our initiative to support our local, state, and national communities. This annual scholarship, valued at $1,500.00, will be awarded to the most deserving law school student, whether incoming or currently enrolled. At Younsel, we understand that the increasing cost of graduate education can be a barrier for aspiring legal professionals. We believe that no student with the passion and vision to make a meaningful contribution to the legal profession should be denied this opportunity. The American judicial system is widely regarded as one of the best in the world, and it is of paramount importance that we have attorneys with strong morals, unwavering ethics, and a strong work ethic to promote and sustain the system's integrity.

Elgibility Criteria

  1. Students must be currently enrolled in, or preparing to attend imminently, a law school within the United States for the 2023 Fall academic term.
  2. All applications, as outlined below, along with the accompanying essays, must be received by 5:00 p.m. (EST) on July 31, 2023, at the latest. Each student is solely responsible for ensuring that all application requirements outlined here are met in a timely manner. Younsel retains full discretion in determining whether an application/essays meet(s) the outlined requirements or not.
  3. Starting August 1, 2023, Younsel will initiate the review and assessment of all duly and punctually submitted applications and essays. The winner of the scholarship award will be notified no later than September 1, 2023, via email.
  4. The $1,500.00 scholarship award will be disbursed directly to the winning applicant no later than September 15, 2023. The funds must be utilized to cover any expenses incurred in attending law school and that are directly related to pursuing a juris doctorate degree. Submitting an application and essays constitutes a de facto agreement to comply with these terms.

Essay Topics

    This year's scholarship essay topics are as follows:
  1. Should members of the United States Congress have term limits? If not, why? If yes, what should those limits be, and how should this system be implemented?
  2. Is it appropriate for educators to express their political beliefs to their students? If not, why? If yes, to what extent should they do so?
  3. Should parents have any control, oversight, or input in the curriculum taught to their children in public schools? If not, why? If yes, to what extent and how should this system be implemented?

Guidelines

  1. Applicants are required to submit a total of three (3) essays, with one addressing each of the above topics. Each essay should be no more than 1,000 words—no exceptions.
  2. Essays will be assessed and graded based on the following criteria: feasibility; substance; uniqueness; perspective; creativity; insight; presentation; and spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Submission Instructions

  1. To apply, send your essays (with titles of your choice for each) to info@younsel.com in PDF format. The essays should be attached to an email from the address where you would like to receive confirmation of receipt.
  2. The subject line for the email submitting your essays MUST be "2023 Younsel Scholarship Award."
  3. In the body of the email submitting your essays, please include your name, address, cell phone number, and school of enrollment. You may also include a brief paragraph about yourself and your career-related ambitions and goals.
  4. Failure to comply with the requirements, guidelines, and instructions above may result in disqualification from consideration. This determination is solely at the discretion of Younsel.
